Project Update 5/12

My book is finished!! I am very proud to say that I have successfully compiled my quotes, organized them how I thought they would work, decided on a style, and finally found a way to print my new book of inspirational quotes for Mr. Blair's classroom. I think the hardest part of my project was organizing the quotes and then finding a way to print my book once it had been laid out and I had decided on a style. I ordered my book to be printed, but sadly I won't be able to include a picture right now because the book won't be ready and at my house until around the middle of July. I ordered two copies so that I could keep one to remember my hard work and so the other copy can serve it's purpose in room 110. It makes me feel good to know that I actually managed to produce a product that can be used in my school community and that I did it by myself. I'm excited for the book to come so I can see it and show myself that I can actually create something pretty good if I put ...

Project Update 5/4

Since my last blog post, I have decided that I am going to incorporate a mix of my two ideas for the color scheme and style of the book. I decided to use bright colors but not use thick, blocky lettering and use thin font that looks slightly handwritten and on pages that have images or illustrations to use thin drawings and images but still keep it colorful. The only issue I have run into now is how to get the book printed. There are a lot of websites that you can use to print books but I am still not totally sure what the front and the back of the book are going to look like and I want to work those things out before it could get printed. There are a lot of things that go in to printing a book that I never realized. Not only do you have to worry about the cover and what it should look and feel like but also how thick you want the pages to be and how much of the text will fill up the page and so on.

Project Update 4/20

My project is coming a long very nicely. I created a presentation to preview the book and see what a final product could look like and it is proving to be a little more difficult to decide on the image of the pages and the outside of the book than I thought it would be. The contents of the book are all set and divided into what could be called chapters or sections. I am having trouble deciding on the colors for the book and keep going back and forth from wanting to make it very colorful with thick text and writing and bright pictures and wanting it to be completely black and white with thin text that looks handwritten and delicate drawings. So, I have to decide on the look of the book but after that all that is left to do is to find a way to possibly bring the book to life with a real life copy.

Project Update 3/31

1. This week I chose the rest of my quotes for the inspiration book and finalized the categories I want to organize them into.  2. Right now I am working on what I want the style of the book to look like. I have been getting inspiration from poetry books and from other compilations of quotes. I want the book to look cohesive and not like I threw a bunch of random pictures of quotes onto some pages.  3. The next thing I'm going to do is create a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation with all of the quotes divided into the sections I want them to be in and try to find a way to add any graphics I want on the pages so I can have some sort of outline for how the book can be created.  Below is one of the pictures I have been taking inspiration from to create the pages.

Project Update 3/24/20

So far, in the process of completing my inspirational quote book for my 20-time project and Mr.Blair's classroom, I have started to gather quotes and divide them into categories of what their topic is. I had thought that by March 15 I would have a list of categories that I would want to section the book into, but this proved to be a little bit harder than I thought it would be. I think this is proving to be harder than I had anticipated because a lot fo the quotes I am finding and planning on using have more than one theme or could be interpreted more than one way to have a different meaning to each person. This is not a bad thing but it might cause me to maybe re-think how I would like to format or section the book.  Luckily, my project has not at all been affected by the coronavirus pandemic or the fact that we have not been in school and doing cyber school. My project, fortunately, did not have to do with interacting with other people or doing something inside of the John Carr...

Elevator Pitch

The problem that I have decided to find a solution to was the fact that I thought Mr. Balir's book that was being used to try to inspire students before each class period was dated and not inspiring. This could be bad because if Mr. Blair's goal of using the original book was to inspire people and the people who are meant to be inspired just end up being bored and confused, he has wasted time nad not really done anything to benefit his students. A simple solution to this issue is available! And that would bee to make a new inspirational quote book for Mr. Blair to use in his classes. Why am I the person for the job you may ask? Because I have heard a majority of the quotes in the old inspiration book, and I have been in the role of someone who should be inspired. With the help of this 20-time project, I hope to bring new inspiration into room 110 with a book of true inspiration that is relevant and relatable to John Carroll's English students.

20 Time Proposal: A New Book of Inspiration

My project is to compile a book of new, modern, inspirational quotes for Mr.Blair to use before the start of each class instead of using his current and very dated "inspirational" quote book.  Needs and Opportunities The problem that I noticed was that Mr.Blair's inspirational quote book was full of old quotes by people his students did not know of and could not relate to. The solution to this problem is to compile a group of new quotes that John Carroll students can relate to and can be used before each one of Mr.Blair's classes to actually inspire his class for that mod and hopefully the rest of the day.  Audience / Clients / Users The audience that this project reaches and impacts is Mr. Blair and every student that he teaches. It can help Mr.Blair accomplish his goal of trying to inspire his students before each class, while at the same time, benefiting the students in his classroom by giving them a new variety of quotes to choose from to inspire t...
